You’re going to love these simple Halloween sensory bin ideas! We are big fans of sensory play and these sensory activities are easy to put together, give your child the sensory input that they need, while providing holiday entertainment for your kids for a few hours (or days).

Halloween Sensory Bin Ideas: Baby Sensory Bin

An easy go to taste safe sensory bin for infants and toddlers is using cereal. If you’re doing taste safe sensory bin, the goal isn’t necessarily so that your child can eat the sensory bin, but rather so that you can practice engaging in sensory play while reiterating, “not in your mouth”, and other sensory bin guidelines with infants and toddlers in a safe environment. My 22 month old absolutely loved this sensory bin and it’s super easy to put together!

Taste Safe Sensory Bin Instructions:

1. Grab a bag of cereal in the color of your choice (we used Honey O’s)
2. Add cereal to a blender or food processor
3. Blend until desired consistency. Ours was a sand like texture.
4. Optional: Add more cereal to mix for a variety of shapes/textures
5. Add fun themed toys/objects, scoops, bowls etc. We found the mini Halloween themed buckets in our sensory bin at Dollar Tree.

Halloween Sensory Bin Ideas: Messy Sensory Bin

We love a fun messy sensory bin and you can’t go wrong with Oobleck! The cool thing about oobleck is It’s easier to clean up than it looks. Oobleck is one of our favorite sensory filers as it’s a liquid when not in motion and a solid when in motion. We paired this sensory bin with our favorite WOW in the World kids podcast for an added educational sensory experience so the kids could learn about how Oobleck can be both a solid and a liquid!

Oobleck Recipe:

• 1 1/2 cups cornstarch
• 1 cup water
• optional: liquid water color or food coloring
• Halloween elements such as charms, cookie cutters, googly eyes, skeleton hand etc.

Halloween Sensory Bin Ideas: Dry Sensory Bin

We love a good dry sensory bin and colored pasta is always a favorite at our house. We used liquid water colors to dye our pasta. Including a variety of pasta shapes and sizes creates an added element of not only different textures, but provides a way for your children to use math concepts such as creating patterns, sorting by shape, size, and colors.

How to Dye Pasta:

Supplies:

• Pasta (add two or three different kinds)
• Liquid food coloring or liquid water color
• Gallon size zip lock bag
• Foil
• Baking Sheet

Instructions:

1. Add pasta into zip lock bag
2. Squirt a few drops of food coloring or liquid water color in bag
3. Seal and shake until evenly coated
4. Add more food coloring and repeat steps 2-3 until desired color is reached
5. Add foil on top of a baking sheet for easy clean up
6. Lay out pasta on baking sheet
7. Let dry (sometimes I take my baking sheet outside if it’s sunny out to speed up the drying process)
